You may think that to fix Windows XP registry is difficult, but it is not always the case. If you are knowledgeable about diagnosing the problem, it would be easier getting it back to its normal speedy operation. Also, there is no problem doing the job if the right tools are with you. In this way, reverting back the computer to where it was before repairing can be easily done should a damage occurs in the process. The first of the following steps will allow you to do this method before proceeding with the rest.

Click Start, and then All Programs under it, followed by pointing the mouse over Accessories and then System Tools. Click the option to start new restore point which can be found under System Restore. Finish it by naming the file and then clicking Create. Finishing this method will allow your computer to have the restore point needed to protect your operating system should any damage occur.

The second step is to click Start again. Click Run so that a box will appear where where you will enter REGEDIT into it. After doing this, the registry editor will open. Remember not to touch anything in it as it can be unsafe especially if you are not exactly knowledgeable about what you are doing. Just choose File and then the Export under it. And then save the .reg file in the selected folder. Name your file and then save it. A file containing all essential information will then be created.

The third step after making sure safety backups are in proper place, is to fix Windows XP registry. For this step, a specialized software program will be needed. Make sure it is the right one, meaning it performs deep, rigid scan, locate broken, empty, and corrupted files – which you will trash later on.
